Who Is A Neurologist




A Neurologist is a doctor who specializes in the treatment related to the brain, spinal cord and nervous system. 

The nervous system is a very complex part of the body. As it is responsible for the coordination of body activities. Its work is divided into two major factors:

  • Central Nervous System: it works with brain and the spinal cord

  • Peripheral Nervous System: for all other body parts such as eyes, ears, skin, etc. 

To be more precise a neurologist works on all the problems that are mentioned below:

  • Cerebrovascular disease

  • Demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system

  • Headache disorders

  • Spinal cord disorder

  • Language disorder

  • Speech Disorder

  • Movement disorder

  • Infections of the brain and peripheral nervous system

  • Neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's disease)

  • Seizure disorders, such as epilepsy

A neurologist never performs a surgery. If a patient under him requires a surgery then that patient will be referred to a neurosurgeon who will take it forward with the surgery.
